Splendid You was born from a heartfelt wish: that every woman in the workplace can honour who she truly is — and shine, both professionally and personally.

It started with my own journey

I'm a woman in my thirties working in an international company. From my student days spent in Japan, I dreamed of building a global career. Today, I'm based in Europe.

But before I got here, I spent years navigating what it meant to be a woman in the workplace.

There were moments that gave me pause — Well-meaning words that somehow made me question whether my efforts were being seen for what they were. After closing a deal I'd worked hard for, I'd hear: "I'm sure it helped that you're young and personable." Or I'd be pushing hard and someone would say, with apparent kindness: "You don't have to try so hard, you know. When is your marriage-retire?" Nothing said with cruelty, but enough to make me wonder whether I was being judged on my work, or on something else entirely.

Over time, I found myself quietly editing who I was. The unspoken rulebook for women in senior roles: don't smile too much, don't talk about your personal life, keep romance well out of sight. For a while, I played by those rules too. I tucked away the parts of myself that felt too feminine, because I thought that's what being taken seriously required. 

But dimming who I am only made things harder.

Europe changed me

Moving to Europe opened my eyes to something I hadn't quite believed was possible. 

Now based in London, I'm fortunate to work closely with the Nordic region — one of the most progressive places in the world when it comes to gender equality. Here, gender equality isn't just a conversation — it's woven into everyday working life. Women express themselves through how they dress, how they speak, how they show up. Femininity isn't something to be managed or minimised; it's simply part of who you are, and that's respected.

For the first time in a long time, I felt the mental weight lift.

It's hard to describe the feeling of being allowed to just be yourself at work — but once you experience it, you can't unfeel it. Day by day, I've been finding my way back to who I actually am. More expressive. More at ease. More me. 

That unlocking — that return to my authentic self — is exactly what I want every working woman to feel.

A world where being a woman is something to be proud of

I don't want women to have to choose between femininity and professional ambition. That idea belongs in the past.

Working hard. Caring about how you look and feel. Valuing your life outside work. These things are not in conflict — and more women should be able to bring all of them to the table, with their heads held high.
